It's not necessary, but a very cool gadget that works well. The magnets embedded within the wooden stake helps you put the lid on the City Bonfire to put out the flame. I'd order another. :)

The lid buddy plus the s'mores kit was the perfect grab bag gift for my family that mostly lives in cities. And the suburbanites would like it, too. One of the city dwellers got it and he liked it a lot!

Great and safe option to putting the fire out. The Lil Buddy makes it so that you do not have your hand close to the flames are the container is quite hot and lid quickly becomes hot when placing over the flames.
I am very happy with the products so far...I wish I had known about some of the accessories like the lighter before I placed the order. I purchased it for an anniversary celebration the 1st week of December so we haven't actually tried it yet.
